The Reel Sisters by Michelle Cummings is a novel about friendship, empowerment, and fly-fishing. Sophie is a pure country girl, raised on a Kansas farm, who moved to Colorado and started her own greenhouse business. Veronica is the complete opposite, a CEO leadership coach of her own company. Rose is the oldest in the group, the girls all look at her as a grandmother because of her warmth and years of experience. And finally, there's Amanda who's a young mother of two toddlers with a husband fighting in Afghanistan. Though a mutual love of fly-fishing, they have bonded for life despite their four majorly different personalities. Rotating through the eyes of each of them, you can really connect and feel the same things as they do. It helps to bring the story to life.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because I can't think of anything negative to say about it. It's well-edited as I found no errors throughout the entire novel. I think there was a lot of thought and effort the author poured into this book, and it definitely shows. Not only does it contain a good story, but I think it's also full of life lessons and powerful messages. Moving past heartbreak, overcoming grief, and self-discovery are just some topics discussed in this novel. Though it has a bit of cursing, for those who hate it I feel they could easily overlook it.

I felt I could connect with each the girls, Melody the most though. She's my favorite person because I felt like we had the most in common. We both have tattoos, piercings, and like Suicide Girls. Also, we both chased after artsy career choice, her with photography and tattooing for me. I enjoyed joining her on her adventure of self-discovery since I've gone on adventures like that myself. I found it easy to see things through her eyes as I feel we have a very similar thought process. One quote I liked from her was "In a weird way that I wasn't expecting, being in the outdoors helped me see the rhythm of nature's music, a symphony that I could capture and conduct through my lens." because I also feel nature has a big influence in art.

The most interesting thing about this book was the fly-fishing. I knew very little about it, so I enjoyed learning all the real information and facts the author put in. Like what a fly is and how all of them have an interesting background on how they were invented. Combining real information about something the author wanted to spread awareness for inside an amazing story I thought was a great idea. I would probably never of known any of the things this book taught me otherwise as I don't see myself randomly picking up any books about fly-fishing in my life. Reading about the girl's excitement about fishing had me ready to go splurge on fishing gear for myself though. All the fishing, outdoors, and nature moments had me missing all the times I went camping while growing up.

I recommend this book to readers who enjoy reading about women empowerment, the power of friendship, and self-discovery. It reminds me of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants in this way. Love, loss, and some history lessons are more things you will read about. It describes perfectly everything with great details that really bring the book to life. Besides a few curses and a kissing scene, this book is good for a younger audience. I found it to definitely be worth the read.

The book is relatable. I guess everyone that read it was able to connect with the girls. The only issue I had with reading this book was the fact that it did not expressly define the term 'fly fishing', which strikes at its core. Happy to know that you also enjoyed it. Thanks for your beautiful review.
