The Reel Sisters By Michelle Cummings is a book about a group of women who share a passion for fly fishing. Each woman comes from a different background and has a different story, but they all come together and form a bond based on friendship and overcoming obstacles. The names of the women are Veronica, Sophie, Amanda, Rose, and Melody (who makes an appearance later in the story). Throughout the book, the women face challenges in their lives that cause them to lean on each other for support and go fishing just to take a break from their problems. They meet new friends in unconventional ways that change the course of their lives throughout the book. In the end, it took a massive storm to put things into perspective and change these women’s lives, and the lives of their families, for the better and the worse.

There are many things that I liked about this book. First, it was told from multiple perspectives so you know what each woman was thinking and you get to know each character a little better. Second, it did not just revolve around fly fishing. It detailed each woman’s home life and the problems that each one had which made it much more relatable. Third, I liked how the women were from different generations but still came together and bonded over fly fishing and nature. This book was a very surprising yet informative read for me. I not only learned about fly fishing but also about how nature itself has the power to heal you.

I did not dislike anything about this book. I started reading this book just knowing the basics of what it was about. I never thought it would be so enthralling and emotional. It not only provided information about fly fishing but it helped you to understand how the experience of fishing impacted these women’s lives for the better. I enjoyed reading this book and not once did I encounter something that I disliked about it.

Based on the fact that I had nothing bad to say about this book I give it a 4 out of 4. This book was very well written and it was about a topic that I have never read about but enjoyed very much. It also had no heavy sexual content. There were some kissing and light mention of touching but nothing too graphic. It also had very little cursing. The ladies said a few words here and there but nothing to the extreme. This whole book was a joy to read and I loved learning about the amazing women in this story.

In the end, I would recommend this book to anyone 18+. The only reason I think it is better fitted for adults is that the characters are adults themselves and have adult problems. So the book would be more relatable to a certain generation of people. It also talks about some subjects like death and naked pictures that may be more appropriate for the older and more mature crowd. Overall it was a book that talked about women finding clarity of mind by learning how to fly fish. I think that is an amazing thing and this was an amazing book.
