The book explores themes of addiction, trauma, redemption, and human connection with unflinching honesty. Robinson’s writing is heartfelt and gritty, often touching but occasionally unpolished. Some parts, especially Gary’s arc, lack the depth of Duke’s, but the emotional core holds strong throughout.
Recommended for:
Fans of character-driven fiction, redemption arcs, or memoir-style storytelling with a rough edge.
Head ups:
Mature themes, uneven editing, and a philosophical tone that might not suit every reader.
