I have always been bothered about the thoughts of sword swallowing and have wondered how Duke from The Sword Swallower and a Chico Kid" by Gary Robinson could poull that off. I can't even look at images of this on the internet. Congratulations on BOTD.

Gary and Robinson seem like they're really messed up. I hope they find their way. It's interesting how Gary didn't learn anything in college, which buttresses the fact that it's not about the certificate but the knowledge gained in college. Well done for the nice review

Gary Robinson's book The Sword Swallower and a Chico Kid is broken up into three sections. Duke Reynolds, the sword swallower, is the subject of the first section, while Gary Robinson, the Chico child, is the subject of the second. The two characters are brought together in the third section to talk about how they affect one another.

The title sounds painful) But seriously, I don't believe I will be able to enjoy this book. No offense meant to anyone, it is just that the subject matter of circus and alcoholism are not really my cup of tea. Congratulations on being BOTD anyway!

From the short sample I read, it appears that the alcohol addiction, which links the two main characters, Duke and Gary, is the catalyst for life change. The trajectory of a life can change direction with a single word or a simple interaction with another human. I am always amazed how a simple conversation can impact another's life so deeply. This sounds like a great character development story if you don't mind drugs, alcohol and nudity.

This is a very interesting story about two men who find themselves at a pivotal moment in their lives, filled with alcohol and lack of sense, with major flaws and insecurities, but with tremendous character growth. It's a good book to read about the lives of these characters, as they were and what they became. It contains humor and very good conversations.
