Will of the Hill by Marshall Cobb is a classic tale about a boy whose name is Will. Will is an average boy of average weight, average height, dull brown hair, and generic brown eyes. He lives with his typical family in an ordinary town at the bottom of an extraordinarily colossally large hill. Like many middle school-aged boys Will does not like school, and would rather spend his days reading comic books. He fears "the puberties," is not only proud of, but very outspoken about the fact that he does not use soap while showering, and he never, ever cleans his room. His best friend is a boy named Dillon, and in addition to their shared obsession for comic books, Dillon also has an aversion to chores, and until very recently had a shared disgust of girls. The most disgusting girl of all is Gertrude, otherwise known as "Intrude," who is Will's nemesis. It appears that Intrude has made it her mission to tattle on Will every chance she can get. As a result, Will is consistently on the teacher's radar and therefore spends much of his time in detention scraping gum and "boogers" off the bottom of the benches.

Will's tale is quirky and humorous, but it also touches on some of the more serious issues young people struggle with today. Not only matters such as merely the awkwardness of being a fifth-grade middle school student, but also the truths of bullying, going through puberty, or even the remotest possibility of, oh my gosh, boy/girl relationships (bleah).

The author creates a believable and yet unique setting for a young boy. The descriptions of the turbocharged rocket school bus, the flawed superhero lunch boxes, and the characters themselves are very imaginative. Characters that readers may be able to identify with as most schools have a popular kid, a tattle-tale, a booger eater, a strict teacher, and an average kid whom more than anything just wants to read his comic books in peace. Maybe that kid is you?

Will of the Hill is creatively written and quite humorous. It will immediately capture your imagination and hold your attention to the hilarious ending. I can definitely see it made into a cartoon series for television.

I noticed no grammatical errors. However, let me clarify. I did not see any written mistakes but only because the book wasn't entirely compatible with my Kindle. There were continuous formatting errors that interrupted my reading enjoyment. With that said, I give this book a rating of 3 out of 4 stars due to the Kindle issues. Despite that, it is a genuinely enjoyable tale. I highly suggest this book to pre-teens who are going through some of the same difficulties as Will and his friends. It would also be an enjoyable book for anyone who has a kid in middle school, has ever had a kid in middle school, or has ever been a kid in middle school.
