There is nothing like a good romantic story to uplift one’s mood. I, for one, am a big fan of romantic stories. They are my instant pick-me-ups whenever I am stressed or worked up.
Heartaches 3 by H.M. Irwing is the final book in the Heartache series by the same author. It is an honest book with a heartfelt and relatable story with life-like characters who move ahead in life in spite of difficult situations, hardships, betrayal, heartaches, and sorrows.
Although a part of the trilogy, Irwing has done a fantastic job in weaving a compact storyline ensuring that a new reader (someone like me who has not read the first two books) is not forced to struggle through the story. Nowhere does the reader feel inept in catching up with the existing story or get confused regarding the present placement of the characters. Of course, it does take time to understand the characters and their personal journey so far but its all done very smoothly with no apparent hiccups or sudden jumps.
This book is the final journey of Anna and Rafe, two broken individuals, victims of the same man, Peter Preston. Anna, a rape survivor, and Rafe, who grew up in the absence of a father yet bore the brunt of his evil father’s atrocities, cruelty, and inhumane nature. Two very strong individuals who had every reason to distrust the other but were immensely drawn to each other and hence, took a leap of faith and allowed their heart to beat once more. They decided to not let their past dictate their future rather chose to move ahead in love. It was not all roses along the way. They had to face their worst fears and insecurities in order to find that deep hidden inner strength to love, cherish, and trust one another.
The journey undertaken by Anna post the heinous crime has been written very sensitively by Irwing. Moreover, it’s an emotional journey for the reader as well to experience the battle that Anna fought not only against her perpetrators but also with herself to throw away the cloak of misery and self-blame.
Irwing has done a fantastic job of bringing justice to the stories of the other supporting characters namely Pat, Anna’s friend who finally meets his soulmate and gathers strength to walk out of his parents home to be with his true love. Similarly, Anna’s friend Suzi also got her “happily-ever-after” after fighting her personal demons.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I enjoyed the pace of the story as it was sleek and fast. I thoroughly enjoyed this story as it had all the elements to make it an immensely compelling read. The story is a perfect mix of emotions such as love, lust, hurt, anger, betrayal, fear, and revenge. This book is exceptionally flawless with fully-baked characters and a perfect storyline to keep you hooked till the end.
I will give this book 3 out of 4. I did not give this book 4 because the editing is not up to the mark. I did not rate this book 2 as it is an absorbing and engrossing story that will not let you put it down till you finish it all in one go!
I would recommend this book to all those readers who enjoy reading love stories that are beyond mush and have a true story to be read!
