We live in a time where all kinds of information is easily accessible at the touch of a button. Although this is incredibly useful for research, educational or entertainment purposes, the world of the Internet can also be a very confusing and potentially dangerous place.
An increasing number of people, both men and women, is nowadays interested in health and nutrition matters, in order to ensure the highest quality of life for themselves and their families. I believe that this book will be particularly appealing to mothers who are forever worrying about the surrounding health hazards and the correct upbringing of their children.
The book HEALTH TIPS, MYTHS, AND TRICKS, A Physician’s Advice written by MORTON E.TAVEL, MD, is an informative, useful tool for the reader who wants to plough through the endless articles on proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle in general, which are available online. It contains sound advice on a vast number of controversial subjects, like the use of electronic cigarettes, the dangers of wireless networking (wi-fi), gluten-free diets, the validity of the polygraph test, the immunization of children and the validity of chiropractic treatments.
The readers can either read all the way through or pick and choose different chapters as they like. Either way, the information laid out by the author is a simple, straightforward, no-nonsense approach that puts the reader at ease. The author is a well-respected physician with decades of experience, who has carried out a large amount of research before presenting the public with the book at hand.
Particularly interesting are the chapters devoted to the consumption of organic foods, genetically modified foods and radiation on foods; but by far the most shocking chapters are those devoted to the scams usually advertised on the Internet, that offer miracle cures, effortless dieting, prevention of aging etc., which can be potentially harmful or even deadly.
As someone who lives permanently in Europe, I would simply point out the fact that some of the chapters of the book are only relevant to USA residents, which is completely understandable as the author carried out his research within the United States. Nevertheless, a lot of the information is relevant, regardless of the country of residence, and can still be used as a guide by any reader around the world.
I would give the book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars as I consider it to be a comprehensive guide for the simple citizen who is lost in the labyrinth of health advice out there.
It is my opinion that the book has been well edited, except for a small mistake in the index.
