Gringo: My life on the edge as an international fugitive by Dan "Tito" Devis with Peter Conti is a true story of Dan "Tito", Tom Eliason a horse racing trainer, Bill Valdez a waiter at Somberero room, , Lisa Lien and other frieds. Dan and Tom first met at a career day for their time. This was during a career day that was hosted by Tom's mother Mrs. Eliason who was the fith-grade teacher. Dan had no idea of what to do with his life, even though he had saved alot of money and even owned a car with more experiences than most people had in their entire lives. The story takes place in the early 1950s and 1970s.
It is at his higher education level that Dan meets with Tom,Billy and Lisa Lien who became his lover, among other friends who quickly attracted him and influenced his life greatly.
One of the things I like most about this book is its intense setting and the accurate descriptions that help bring setting to life. Personally, I was drawn to this book because I experience almost the same challanges and environment that Dan went through while in my highschool and college levels of education. As a result, I was delighted with the auther's masterful ability to bring to life the true picture of how young minds can become corrupted by money and drugs.
I adore another aspect of this book where the author has blended romance, crime and elements of surprise. This has motivated me so much before and during my reading of this book. As a result of that aspect, I could really develop questions in my mind that I could not unswer until I could finish reading the book. I could not predict the ending of the book and I loved that because I was captivated until the end of the book. Arrangements of the book's chapters were really amazing as each chapter ushered in another one. Also, all chapters are equal in lessons and non was boring in anyway.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars Based on the story and writing style, I am giving the book 4 stars as there was nothing that I did not like. Actually, the book was enjoyable and full of lessons right from the begining to the end. I therefore appeal to all young people joining higher education lavels, parents/ guardians and teacher to read this book and discover what life can become when one lives loose life.
