SUMMARY OF THE BOOK
The book Code Name: Dodger Mission 1—Operation Rubber Soul by Eric B. Auxier is a very fascinating story of a boy who in a bid to revenge his father’s death ran into a complex mortal situation that has national security implications. Ensconced within an orphanage, the opening pages of the book let the reader into the world of foster children, some of whose delinquent behaviors resulted in their being remanded in juvenile centers. The weaving of the plots from when Justin left the orphanage to when he met Bob, Glen and the sister to when he joined the CIA and later used the training he acquired to bring down the evil lord “Pharaoh” is a masterstroke for the author. The book ends in a triumphal tone when the evil “Pharaoh” and his accomplices were caught and served the expected justice.
REVIEW
Code Name: Dodger Mission 1—Operation Rubber by Eric Auxier is a very captivating book that is difficult to put down. It is a book that reflects the difficulties faced by youngsters, particularly those orphaned or needing foster care.
It offers an exciting ride into the life of Justin, his very good buddies, Ralph and Doug, and the survival skills they mastered to endure the challenges of living on the streets and later being taken under the care of an orphanage.
The plot, from the orphanage to Bob’s home to the CIA headquarters and back to the orphanage and the fact that Justin took up the gauntlet to absolve his dead father and his foster father of weighty criminal allegations levelled against them was both interesting and inspirational.
Although Justin seemed too mature as a boy for the role of a spy lord in which he was cast, not forgetting his diminutive disadvantage, but anything goes in the world of fiction. That is why it is called fiction, that is, literary work of imagination. And Eric showed that he is a master at this craft.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because the book is stirring. It is breathtaking, suspenseful, action-packed, adrenaline-charged, enigmatic; heart-pumping movie on paper; romantic, loyalty inspiring, hilarious, nationalistic and vengeful. It is a must read for youngsters, adults, lovers of detective novels and everyone who wants an exciting book to whet her or his reading appetite.
SPOTTED ERRORS
1. Pages 42 (Start from “We played catch…) and 43 (5th paragraph), the words “Occasionally, I’d get a glimpse at Joya. Once, she even joined us in a game of pickle. In addition to her wild lion’s mane, I found, she had freckles on her nose and cheeks. Amazing, wonderful, light brown freckles. And, for a girl, she was the fastest runner I’d ever seen.”
2. Did the author mean to say “Voila” for “Viola”? See page 56 (paragraph 1).
3. Repetition of “of” on page 174 (last paragraph).
4. Page 184, “But you’re dad’s gone, Justin.” should have been written as “But your dad’s gone, Justin.”
