The Diary of a Snoopy Cat is a well-authored and illustrated book. The author has used both animals and human characters. In the book, cats and dogs play detective roles and have succeeded in solving many cases.
The author presented two teams of detectives that investigated and solved big cases. One team led by Terrance, a detective dog, set out to find the whereabouts of Raoul. Raoul had gone missing while climbing Mount Everest in the Himalayas. The team took the life-threatening assignment and despite the odds succeeded in bringing Raoul back home. The other team led by Inca, a detective cat, set on a mission to recover Mr. Finchley’s will that had disappeared mysteriously. In the will, Mr. Finchley had left the house to Ned, his friend’s son. To his nephew Cyril, he left the family business along with the other properties. Now that the will was missing, Cyril laid claim to all assets including the house. Inca with her team, managed to recover the will, thus securing Ned’s inheritance and a roof over Boss’s head. Boss is an excellent watchdog.
The author, R. F. Kristi introduced the key characters at the beginning of the book. This introduction makes it easy to follow the story as you read along. The book is easy to with good fonts and plenty of relevant illustrations to make the story flow smoothly. The line spacing is friendly to the reader. On average there are fewer words per page which makes the book a good read for the young readers. The detective nature of the story will surely thrill the young readers. A combination of excellent authorship and page layout and the flow of events in the book will nurture readers to develop a reading culture early in life. I recommend the book for primary schools’ libraries as well as the early secondary schools’ students. The detective nature of the story will make a captivating movie if adopted into one.
I would rate the book at 4 out of 4 stars. The material in the book is well edited, only one error was identified, and the story is captivating.
I did not encounter any area of the book that I did not like. There is a good moral lesson to learn, teamwork. The book emphasized the importance of teamwork in order to achieve whatever goals we have in life. At some point, Inca decided to go it alone on a delicate mission of recovering the will, had it not been for the timely help from Boss, things would have turned bad, and the mission would have failed.
