The Fox by M.N.J. Butler is a historical fiction and memoir book that first published in 1995, although it reissued in 2018. The setting takes place in the Ancient Greek village of Sparta. Leotychides lives with his royal family when he is young. During his adulthood, he has some secrets that no one knows about him. One of the secrets is that Leotychides may be a son of the late King Agis. Other than that, he explains his success and tragic life throughout the story.

I like the stories about Ancient Greece because it is interesting and fascinating. Also, architecture and fashion are intriguing. Those are the reasons why I enjoy reading The Fox. In my opinion, it is longer than what I expected, but it is absolutely okay. In addition, it took me a while to finish this book because of the long paragraphs and sentences as well as the pages. I like how the author wrote this amazing story about a brave soldier. What I do not know about The Fox is that it is based on true events. Also, I have no idea that Leotychides and the characters are real people. Those facts are new to me.

At the beginning of the book, there is a glossary that contains a list of words that are used throughout the story. Additionally, the names of the people and group are in the dictionary as well. To be honest, I find the glossary very useful so I can understand the meaning of the terms better. Furthermore, I can learn interesting words I find in the book.

The writing of The Fox is excellent and complex. I read some sentences several times so I can understand them better because. The reasons why is because I want to know what the sentences are talking about. Other than that, I do not see any grammar errors and problems the book has. In addition, there are no incorrect spelling that is involved, thus all of the words are correct to me. The use of punctuation is great and no single mistake is included.

I give this book 4 out of 4 stars because it is overall good and extremely perfect. The author does an excellent job writing this amazing book about Leotychides, his royal family, and the people in the Greek village of Sparta. Great job and I am going to read it again in the future. I will recommend this book to the people who love reading books about Ancient Greece, Sparta, and historical memoirs. Historians and students who major in history will enjoy The Fox as well.
