Heartaches is a book written by H.M. Irwing. The book has one hundred and thirty-one written pages and the last page is blank. The book has sixteen chapters. It falls under the genre of romance. The language is simple thus easy to read. It is the first book of the bad boy vibes series. Vivid description has been used in the book which is quite a bonus on my part though the author may have gone overboard with some scenes with the descriptions. These vivid descriptions have a catch though and the catch is that it makes the book very interesting to read as it has got deeper details that help you create a mental image of what is happening in the reader’s mind.
It is quite difficult to do away with painful memories of the past. The book has many painful that the main characters have endured and still are but somehow they manage to put of a show of having no problems. The book is written in third person point of view. It is mainly about Anna and Rafe who have both been through hell and back. Both of them have endured quite a lot of things that not many people would have endured. Rafe and Anna have both been victims of rape. When Rafe meets Anna he immediately knows that she has been through something that she is finding difficult to open up about and to seek help. The book contains some scenes that strictly meant for adults.
The book is interesting as it is about how people fall in love even after the difficult things love has made them go through in the past. Despite what they have been through Anna and Rafe fall in love with each other which is a beautiful thing. They are proof that you do not determine when you will fall in love, love just happens. Anna and Rafe try so hard to hide their feelings or each other and they deny at first though everyone around them can see that they clearly are in love. They both have each others back since they know that it is not easy to go through what they have undergone alone. Rafe finds it so hard to be open to Anna at first because he thinks that he would be burdening Anna yet she has so much on her plate already.
The characters in the book are so secretive. Anna does not want to reveal the truth about his step-brother Brian and how abusive her step-father was and Rafe does not reveal all the details of what happened to him during his service in the army. There are so many themes in this book and they include betrayal and death. Anna’s real father is a perfect example of a good father. He was clever enough to leave his house under Anna’s name and she was to own it after she reached a certain age thus making it hard for Brian to forcefully take the house. Anna’s mother is also secretive as she does not at any point confess the abuse she had to undergo in her own house.
I would suggest this book for the hopeless romantics. It is a story of a love so pure despite the fact that the characters have been through a lot. The book also contains some erotic scenes so it would be nice or someone who loves them. If you are sensitive to issues like rape, domestic violence and homosexuality then this is not the book for you. I felt like I didn’t have closure with the book and also I was left in suspense but it is nice that the author gave us the assurance that the book will be continued in another book in the series. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
