Undead Redhead, by Jen Frankel, is a fun and engaging book. I love the cover on Amazon of the girl who was half alive and half zombie. It matches one of the central themes of the book. Is Sharon Backovic alive, or is she undead? However, while the storyline is unique and creatively written, it falls short in editing. I give this book a rating of 3 out of 4 stars.

Sharon Backovic, the main character, finds herself in a most impossible situation. She thinks she might be dead. Waking up in a coffin stuffed inside a hearse at the cemetery with no memory of how she got there, Sharon sets out on a new adventure and second chance at life. Memories slowly return and she realizes what has happened to her. She has to choose between her past life and her future. She doesn't really try to hide the fact she is dead, or undead. Unbeknownst to her, and due to the deplorable way she died, she is already somewhat popular on social media which is good and bad. She tries to reconnect with old friends and finds out it took her own death to see who her true friends are. Sharon has a lot on her plate. She thinks someone is following her, someone has stolen her identity, she is slightly rotting, she's broke, she is homeless, and she is a true redhead stuck in a hideous neon pink bridesmaid dress with uncomfortable footwear to match. To top it all off, she has an issue of what exactly she is supposed to be eating. Zombies eat brains, right? Well, she's vegan. With the help friends, she navigates her way through it all.

I enjoyed the creativity of the story and the way it kept me engaged. Nothing became boring. There were a few confusing parts. For instance, it wasn't clear to me what she knew about herself in the beginning. However, that did not detract from the actual story in any way. The author did a great job with character development. I do wish I had more backstory on Malcolm and Morgoni, but that is good the author left me wanting more I suppose. At first, the back and forth from present-day to past events had me confused, but I got used to it. After I was used to it the pace of the book was good.

The book did not seem professionally edited. I found many grammar and spelling mistakes. For example, "although she though she caught both of them..." should include the word thought instead of though. Another example: "even it it meant abandoning her stuff". This should read "even if it meant abandoning her stuff". Since this did not seem professionally edited, I was forced to take one star from my overall rating.

I think this book would appeal to a wide variety of readers from teens through people in their 40's and 50's. Perhaps even older. It's like there is something for everyone. There is humor, romance, mystery, and thrill. It was very light-hearted and was an easy read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was hoping it was the beginning of a series. Had it not been for the lack of editing I would have gladly given it 4 stars.

It's such a pity that there were many errors – it is a deal-breaker for me. However, the premise is intriguing. Thanks for the review!

I wish our dear redhead had left out the bit about how zombies are supposed to eat brains. I hope that turns out not to be the case as I think this would be an endearing story, which is kind of odd for a book that centers around an undead character. I hope your desire for a sequel does not indicate the end of the book left you feeling unfulfilled.

The fact that there are so many grammatical errors throughout the boo is sad. However, I am willing to overlook that to read this. This sounds like a fun and quick read. Thanks for the review.
