Book title: Happiness Is All We Want! – By Ashutosh Mishra

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars.

Let me start with why I picked this book. The simple title of the book was quite appealing to me. I like reading self improvement books and I chose this book out of curiosity as to what it was going to tell about happiness.

The book itself turned out to be a profound journey. The simple title conceals the wealth of useful information that this book contains. It is a practical and methodical guide to happiness with tried and tested approaches. Every page is packed with powerful information which reveals a step by step approach for bringing health, peace and happiness in our lives.

Summary: The book takes us section by section into our modern way of life and its effect on our mind and body. The first few chapters provide a general introductory discussion on the search of happiness as well as how our busy, modern lifestyle is affecting us.

This is followed by Part 1 - The section on Mental Well Being, wherein the author takes us deeper into the fickle state of mind that most of us struggle with on a daily basis. The chapters in this approach take a holistic approach towards mental well being starting from how we many bring mental agony to ourselves by unhealthy thought patterns, expectations to how we can bring ourselves back to a healthy state of mind.

Here the author also tackles lifestyle related changes like diet and so in this section. He also introduces us to various meditation and healing practices with an introduction to Yoga.

Part 2 covers Physical Well Being. This contains very detailed chapters on how we can go about building a healthy physical routine for maintain optimum health. We are guided step by step with an understanding of how we often push our bodies while neglecting the care it needs. We also see how perils and addictions of sedentary lifestyle also affect us adversely.
This is followed by various approaches to exercise as well as diet and what is needed to consistently maintain the routine.

Part 3 is about Spiritual Wellbeing. Here the author takes us beyond mental well being and fitness into discovering something deeper. It addresses that part of us which yearns for welfare of all humanity and binds us as one. Various fears are addressed along with the various approaches one can take on their journey towards the Ultimate.

What I liked about the book: This is easily one of the best books I have read and an eye opener on so many levels. This is a book which prompted me to take action towards change, I have made a start by joining a Yoga class near me as well as by implementing some of the approaches discussed in the book for Mental Well Being.

What I liked about this book is the step by step, guided approach and multiple practices which are discussed to suit various needs.

One is bound to find something or the other that feels doable to them and this will result in actual lifestyle changes.
This book goes beyond the feel good feeling and poses some real questions and challenges to the reader to make some much needed changes. This book makes the readers think about how they are taking for granted the body, mind and health, our basic tenets for happiness.

The sections touch all facets of life and I felt that no stone was left unturned in the pursuit of well being and happiness in this wonderful book. Each section also contains many personal stories of the author as well as his family and friends, which help in relating to the various approaches and practices listed in the book.

What I did not like about the book: Many of the practices in this book can be pursued only if you enjoy a certain level of financial freedom. For many, it may be impossible to implement much of what is suggested in this book due to the struggles of daily life and raising a family.

Final Verdict: It is a great book to read no matter where you are in life. Even though one may not be able to implement everything mentioned, it certainly will help in prioritizing and making a start. With due discipline, this book can assist in making much needed changes for health and happiness.
