I wanted to review a book which was different, something which would get my mind thinking deeply, to challenge my knowledge and opinions. I certainly got that with this book. It was a real eye opener in the world of Pastors. It really kept my attention. It made clear that life for most Pastors is a struggle, hence the title, Pastoring Is Not What You Think. Just surving alone, is not easy.

Its very easy to assume a Pastors life is an easy one, wealthy, huge house, great quality of life, mingling with celebrities. But for most Pastors, a life of privilege is very few and far between. It is also very easy to assume a Pastors life is stress free, and a piece of cake, with Sunday services, weddings, christenings. But for most Pastors their life is very stressful indeed.

In the USA thousands of Churches are closed down due to many issues, including, constant money worries, late on rent, in debt, can't repair Church maintenance. Yet the Pastors work hard to maintain their their Churches. In the name of God and their Christian faith, they continue to pass on Gods words, teachings and guidance.

We learn of Pastor Job, who talks of the big issues in life, for example gun violence and Government issues. He also believes and teaches the importance of hard work in life, through hard work and faith you will earn your life's rewards.

Pastor Job is under enormous pressure, with his everyday commitments of preaching and teaching. He is struggling in life. But Pastor Job never has his faith shaken, with his faith, with his duty as a leader in Gods name, he continues.

I give this book 3 out of 4 stars. It really made me see a Pastors life from a view of how generally their reality is. There really is no wealth, no life of luxury, they do it as it is their calling in life, their own mission, with their faith they believe good will come.

I do recommend this book, even if you are not religious, it really is interesting, as it will certainly give you a view of what a Pastors life is like, and what a struggle for most it is, and it is an everyday struggle too. But for Pastors it is more than a job, it is their way of life, they dedicate their lives to the Church and to God.
