Sigfried's Smelly Socks! by Len Foley is a story of little boy Sigfried trying to find about from where this foul smell is coming. Each page has pictures of different eatables that have been rotting for many days due to which they smell really bad. Also pee of his dog, dirt by his younger sister Piper and last but not the least his socks adds to the variety. Each pair of socks vary in range of both colours and smells. The end of story is about what he is going to do with his socks.
The problem of stinky socks is something that is found in every room of every house. Len Foley indeed took an interesting name for his work. Picture of Sigfried with a blue T-shirt, pink pants over his skinny legs, his eyes popping out of his hemispherical face and few slightly tilted black lines over his head to make his hair is quite similar to cartoon characters we see on TV. The socks of different variety are pictured well.
The story is somewhat rhythmic as we can easily get a poetic feel with end word of each sentence such as here-year, nose-hose, etc. But this pattern is not seen everywhere, and because of this story seems to loose consistency at some points. There are other pictures of Sigfried's sister, his uncle and brother that too are average in terms of creativity.
Coming to the story when I read its description it stated to be smelly and hilarious, yes it is a work full of stinky things but it has nothing hilarious in it. Keeping in mind that this book is made for small kids this story doesn't impress me at all. I feel the content of the story has no lesson for young ones. The ending is quite misguiding as it shows Sigfried sitting inside an English toilet stating don't flush and he seems happy being inside it. This picture can create a bad impression on children's mind and it may tempt them to do the same.
I rate this book 1 out of 4 stars as I really don't feel like suggesting this book to any children. Each page hardly consists of 30 to 35 words and most of them are describing smells of rotten food and other such stuff. In the whole book main character Sigfried is shown with confused and sad look except for the last page when he is sitting inside an English toilet. The content written for young ones should have the basic moral lesson or at least something full of fun but this book nothing of such sort.
