In the book, “Diary of a Snoopycat”, I think if you like detective themed books, this will delight you. In this book there is quite a lot of characters to follow. The main character is a cat named "Inca". Inca is a Siberian kitty. His humanoid mom is named Missy. Missy runs a cheese store. How convenient for a family with cats. Along with Inca you will read about a beautiful cat names Cara, who loves to stay groomed and pampered. There is also Fromage, who is tabby cat and the brother of Inca. This cat will show you that he is an expert of cheese, since he absolutely loves cheese, nothing but cheese. A few more characters who are also animals are Charlotte, a dwarf hamster, Polo, a Pekinese dog, Terrance a Golden Retriever, and a few others. Missy the humanoid as Inca says, has a family member in this book, named Florence. Florence is her Aunt.
The main plot in this book has you following a bunch of cats and a few dogs that have formed an investigative business. I guess at least in this story cats and dogs do get along. Counting down the days of Christmas from a day to day basis you will want to solve the ultimate mystery yourself. I enjoyed following the different personalities that these animals had. They were confident at times and at other times the author gave them childlike personalities. This all is taking place in Kensington, London. So, you have different customs introduced into the story that give it a real-like feel.
Inca the main cat character writes in a diary. He hopes to one day to be the No. 1 celebrity Snoopy Kitty in the world. he figures if he writes down his daily adventures then he will one day prove this. Alongside his friends and allies he gets his answers and shows that being a detective is a rewarding and knowledgeable job and career. Instead of sleeping all day and being a boring cat, he proves that he is interesting and in an elite few range of smart cats.
I enjoyed the front of this story describing each character so that when you read it, you can almost visualize them in your mind.
I rate this book a 3 out of 4. I thought that placing pictures with color would have added to the interest to keep reading more. In my opinion the illustrations lacked an eye grabbing appeal. If the author had of done this I think it could be an asset. I did enjoy the book because I love animals, especially cats. This book would get animal lovers to read it. The cover catches an animal lovers eye, in my opinion. That is the main reason I first looked at it.
So, in closing, if you like animals, detective-like reads this book will grab your attention on that premise alone. Would have liked to hear more about where these characters came from, maybe some background. But still a good book. I would not suggest this book for young readers, possibly middle school age level. Easy to follow.
