Unveil Your Intimate Self , The Secret to Freedom and extraordinary living by Elena Georgia Dou teaches man to make the most of the opportunity called life. I find the scientists’ research formula for happiness
Level of happiness = Biological set point (40%) + Conditions of one’s life (15% ) + Voluntary activities (45 %) a point to ponder on.

In the book, she addresses one of the true needs of man – the search for true happiness , which is the state of being happy at all times for no reason at all, and inner peace. She emphasizes the fact that this can only be achieved by living in an internal state of consciousness . Living in consciousness makes man take responsibility for his actions and their effects. This awareness / enlightenment unites man with the goals of the universe which are : maintaining balance in the universe in terms of creation, maintenance and death/ destruction. She emphasizes that almost everything on earth is transient except man, and states principles for maximizing the three aspects of life – Physical life, Mental/ emotional life and Spiritual life.

The many things I like about the book, include the following :
• The knowledge that I can control and change the quality of my feelings at any time through the exercise to shift qualia described on page forty two.
• The definition of fear as the expectation of pain in the future because of past experiences that you did not know how to handle and are afraid of not being able to handle; this I find to be true.
• The nuggets of wisdom included in the chapters.
• The fact that the role of discipline and daily practice in achieving happiness was mentioned; hence, the book is not about quick fix mechanisms to sorrow and suffering.

I do not really like the fact that, the principles and methods taught were based mostly on scientific discoveries. Even though the importance of connecting with the Supernatural Being was mentioned a few times, I believe it is very effective in improving the quality of lives and more research and some comparisons could have been done with regards to that. I think that people who do not have a good foundation or interest in science in high school will find it difficult to relate with the theories of practice taught by the author. I also wished I could learn if there is a difference between joy and happiness ; but they were used interchangeably in the book.

I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars.. It is a good book that will teach youths to consciously amend their ways by consciously changing circumstances from the inside to outside, instead of only thinking of what their nation can do for them.
