From Drift to Shift is a motivation and inspiration book. The writer Jody narrates stories of a few people she specifically selects that have moved through different drifts to shifts in their lives to get to their calling professionally and in their private lives.
One of the stories is about a story of a couple that both grew up really poor. Serita and her husband Reid Cox are now co founders of iFoster. Serita grew up in a foster home and was later returned and connected with her real family. She never had any connection with her real parents because they didn’t care which was hurtful and traumatising emotionally. The fight to survive leads to her getting arrested as a young girl but no one ever bothered to ask her what truly happened. Reid on the other hand grew up poor with parents that had no expectations as far as achievements are concerned because they had never been to college. They turn their dilemma in to a fruitful iFoster organisation. iFoster helps kids in foster homes between the age of 16 to 25 get jobs after intense training which I find really good weighing on the number of unemployed youths around.
Another amazing story is that of Darren. Darren was sleeping in the car on his way skiing with a friend but woke up paraplegic which caught him by surprise. He is a professional painter that has accepted his condition and fights against all odds to achieve his dreams. He fights all odds to move on with his life with the challenge of needing constant health attention. His grandmother can’t stand to see her grandson in pain and she decides to take her own life. Besides all the challenges Darren is still positive in life and continues to purse his dreams with gratitude.
The story of Emilee is another beautiful one. Emilee Garfield had cancer as a young girl that was traumatic and violent. But she lived to win the battle of cancer and is a survivor. Living through the emotional and the metal trauma that come with cancer, Emilee had to work hard to find her identity as she grew up and the need for acceptance which she achieved. She later finds love and gets married. Because of chemotherapy, she had the least percentage chance of ever having children but she took the chance and she was able to have a family. Later, the cancer returned and half of all her intestines and stomach had to be removed. This is not stop her from fighting and living a happy life which is something really significant.
l like the fact that the writer goes a head to tell her own story in the book about finding herself after a divorce and also the time a pediatric neurologist told her son would be half of his life behind. She explains how she comes out different after the shifts in her life.
I like the fact that the book speaks more about one finding true happiness and living life to the fullest. The writer encourages the readers to face their fears and embrace change. According to the writer we all have a great destiny and deserve the best of everything so never settle for less than you deserve. I recommend this book to everyone because I believe we all can learn something from all these stories.
I never found any typos or grammatically errors. The simplicity of the language used within the book is another reason why I like the book. It can be understood by anyone. With that being said, I rate this book 4 out of 4.
