Speak Up! Tell Your Story to Influence Others is written by Susana G. Baumann.

The author begins this book by explaining how important it is to know oneself so one can be a great storyteller. She encourages us to ask our friends, family, and co-workers to describe us. They will each have a different view of us. We have a different view of ourselves. The important thing to do is to listen to these people and blend in their views of us with our view.

We need to listen to them and take the positives about ourselves and accept them. Next, we need to find our weaknesses and turn them into assets. One stereotype of older people is that they are not good with new technology. If you are one of these older people, the best thing you can do is accept that you may be one who is not good with technology. Take this knowledge and turn it into a positive. Ask someone you trust to teach you about new digital skills. Have them teach you about the popular media like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or any other social media you are not fluent in.

Take all of your assets, qualities, strengths, and weaknesses and blend them into your story. You'll also need to understand business and how it works. You'll need to understand marketing, bookkeeping, and finances. If you have an accent, work with it. Some people will try to change their accent to a more 'white'-sounding accent. We all have accents. Someone from the south is going to sound different from someone from the north, east, or west. People from other countries are often judged by their accents and are thought to be slow learners or maybe even not as intelligent as others in their field because of the accent.

I like how the author gives step-by-step instructions on how to accomplish all of these things and gives credit and footnotes along the way. I found this to be a well-written book with good insight. I like the way she presents her story to us and how she encourages us to accept ourselves and share our own stories. I can think of nothing I dislike about the book. It was very thorough and gave good opinions. There were a few typos or grammatical errors, which is why I give this book a good 4 out of 5 stars.
