Moonset on Desert Sands is written by Sherri L. Dodd. This is book two of the trilogy series: Murder, Tea, and Crystals. The first book, Murder Under Redwood Moon, has left Arista recovering from an encounter with a serial killer. She has left her Redwood, California, home for the safety of a new home with her aunt in Sedona, Arizona.

The prologue catches us up with Dustin, who steals the athame from the evidence room. He then rushes to his car and drives towards the location of Fergus. While driving, Dustin begins to feel guilty for stealing the knife. So, he decides to turn around and take the mystical knife back to the sheriff's office. But before he can retrace his path, he is forced off the road by a very large vehicle. The impact makes his car careen down a steep cliff and settle far down on the ground. Dustin finds himself trapped inside his car because all of the airbags have exploded and taken up most of the interior room. He fails to open the driver's side door because the door has been crushed in the wreck.

Fergus has been searching for his niece, Arista, for a while now. He desires to take over her prophesied powers. But since he has skillfully obtained the mystical knife, the athame, he can postpone his hunt for her for now. He desires to obtain the real magick the knife holds. This type of magick can cause spiritual changes with the use of one's will. Magick is far better than the magic most people have heard of. For now, Fergus is gifting the athame to Fallon in hopes that it will elevate her to the next high priestess realm.

The author writes a beautiful tale of the paranormal and even incorporates descriptions of modern American Sign Language. Her use of descriptions and knowledge of crystals and auras makes this an intriguing read. There is deception in some of the chapters. This makes the reader pay close attention so they can tell which character is which.

Some of the descriptions about the different types of crystals left me wanting to learn more about them. I found some of the deception within the characters hard to follow. This is a good book for people who like to read fantasy. It is for this reason that I give the book a 3 out of 5-star review.
