Lunch Tales: Suellen by Lucille Guarino is a fast-paced story full of love, mystery, and heart. The core of the story resides with the main character, Suellen. She is a young attorney who has been afforded an abundance of opportunities due to her wealthy upbringing. Suellen is a multifaceted character who is dealing with numerous family, medical, and work issues. You get to know the character in a very genuine way, especially when you learn about her childhood. The reader gets a clear idea of who she is, and you feel very protective of her. With every advantage she has been given, it could be easy for the author to make an unlikeable character; however, Lucille wrote about the character with such care.

When you first meet Suellen, she is with a boyfriend who has many red flags. He is a police officer with many flaws, and the reader quickly sees that the relationship fizzles out, but it also leaves them still feeling uneasy about the whole affair. You then get to see Suellen as a lawyer in a prestigious firm, where she is assigned a pro bono case, which involves the adoption of a foster child. You get to see the human side of Suellen when she learns about the whole backstory of this child.

Through it all, Suellen is searching for love and with the reconnection of an old classmate might have found it, though there are some who are not happy with it and let their feelings be known.

Lucille Guarino has a very inviting writing style. She masters the balance between humor, heart, and story perfectly. I gave this story a rating of 5 out of 5, partly because I could not put it down. As a reader, you are so intrigued by the story and characters that you just want to know what happens. If I had to critique anything, I would have liked to read more about the relationship between the main character, Suellen, and her brother. You get some great scenes, but I just wish there were more.

Readers should be aware that the story contains some language that may be considered sensitive. There are also some triggering situations, including sex and abuse.

This book is ideal for readers interested in a fantastic story featuring a strong female character. It is fast-paced, and you will quickly want to find other books this author has created. It was well edited and did not have any errors.
