Storm Chasing is a cheerful and lovable children’s book written by Scott Withers and colorfully illustrated by Juliet Frost. The story features an adorable little weather dog named Cane, who teaches young readers about the job his daddy, Scott, does as a TV weatherman. The book follows this lovable duo as Cane briefly explains their job, introduces their storm-chasing truck, and describes various kinds of weather.

Cane, the brown-and-white weather dog, is a friendly and charming little character who provides easy-to-follow explanations about the different types of weather he and his daddy chase as the seasons change. At the same time, colorful illustrations bring to life the storm-chasing truck and the hardworking team as they chase different kinds of storms. This lovable combo of Cane, his daddy, and their storm-chasing truck appears on every page where a storm is described, offering consistent, reassuring, and cheerful figures for children to relate to. A new kind of weather is introduced with each season, including thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and blizzards.

I really enjoyed the way Scott Withers had Cane, the lovable dog, introduce these different kinds of weather in a positive and approachable way. The book focuses on helping children understand what storms are, rather than inciting fear about the damage they can cause.

Overall, I think this book would be a valuable tool for parents and teachers to introduce children to basic types of weather, discussions about storm safety, and jobs related to weather. I would love to see more spin-offs featuring Cane, the weather dog, expanding on topics such as weather safety, the job of a TV weatherman, or additional kinds of weather. With all of this in mind, I give this book a 4/5 rating. I feel like the book could have been improved by mentioning more about safety during the weather that is being described – especially as Cane, the weather dog, and his daddy are being illustrated as chasing storms and even standing on the beach during a hurricane.
