From Drift to Shift By: Jody B. Miller
Review By: Donna M. Cummings
This book is about how people can change their lives from just drifting along to a shift in the right direction for them, and it shows that money and success is not the only way to be happy in life. The author interviewed others who had shifted their lives and found happiness. These people went through some tough times to get where they are now and are happy and doing well. The author herself also went through tough times and is happy now. The stories told within these pages are encouraging and uplifting, they tell of sadness and hard times but they show how people can get through those times and become stronger and happier people afterwards. These life changing events helped to mold them into the people they are now and each has chosen to help others in some way after those changes and the author shows how that brings true happiness.
What I like about the book is that it helps others to see how they too can change their lives and make a shift that will lead them to happiness in life, through encouraging words and stories of others. I liked how the author talked to a diverse group of people for the book and how even though they all had some things in common that they went through they all also had different things that lead them on the journey they went on in making their on shift in life. I learned many important things from this book that I can now use to make a shift in my own life for the better.
“I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars.” I almost gave the book 3 stars because although I enjoyed reading it and learning from it there are people who may not enjoy the book because of the religious tone in some of the chapters. I felt that the religious tones whether it Christianity or Hindu fit well in the story and it shows the difference in the people the author interviewed for the book.
I think this book would appeal to anyone who is feeling down and is seeking help in finding happiness and needs a guide in the right direction. If they have gone through sadness or pain in their lives, then this book can help them see how others dealt with similar problems and issues in their lives and the book gives encouragement that it can get better after the bad in life and they can be happy in both life and love.
The people whose lives you read about in this book cover a wide variety of careers and life changing events such as being Foster kids, having cancer ,being a tribe in the Amazon rainforest, a CEO of a large company, Life coach, Mother of three, Education Instructor, Chemical engineering, Hindu. We can learn something from everyone we meet in life, whether good or bad and from what we learn we can use that to change ourselves for the better.
