Review of Winter Love
Winter Love is a self-help book written by the international psychologist and psychology professor “Linda J. Hayes” from the University of Nevada, Reno. The first thing that I’ve noticed about the book is the fact that it was written by someone who actually works in the area and probably has consulted enough couples or talked to many people who had issues in their relationships. This gives us, the audience, the confidence to pick up the book and start it.
The book has been nicely separated into three parts in which she tries to give different genders, and lastly, everyone, some useful tips about dating and having a partner. The audience may be the seniors but to be honest, I find many of them useful for all the generations. The book includes nice motherly advice to cautious alerts to watch out for yourself in case of danger. Although the points mentioned were at a good amount, I still believe that the book should be labelled specifically for American/Canadian citizens as it does not really consider the culture or atmosphere of the other countries (or even continents).
Something else that would be excellent to add to the book is adding footnotes. There were some proper names (of people and places) that might not be common knowledge. So, as an audience, I’ll appreciate it if the author just writes it down there so I wouldn’t need to cut off my reading and go search it.
Following every advice, there was at least one example mentioned about a couple or a person whom I assume was the client of the author. I highly consider it one of the positive points about the book as it vividly proves to the audience that all those pieces of advice come from the experience and I’m not making them up out of nowhere.
Despite the fact that many good recommendations were mentioned in the book, I noticed a flaw comparing the “to men” and “to women” sections. In the “to men” part, she hardly mentioned how a man needs to please her partner sexually, on the other hand, in “to women” part, she seriously explains how to do oral sex to please your man and that’s very odd to believe that this book was written by a woman.
In conclusion, based on the points mentioned above, I decided to eliminate one point from a perfect rating for this book, giving it 4 out of 5. Although the editing was nearly flawless and the content highly useful, it wasn’t entirely perfect. That said, this is still appreciated, as nothing can truly be faultless.
