The novel, Trip to Adele by R.I Alyaseer and A.I Alyaseer who happen to be siblings ,revolves around the Adele concert and Adele's music. The book is quite interesting as it involves different characters from different backgrounds who face different challenges but are all connected by Adele.
The writers introduce a carefully thought plot at the beginning with each character in their respective setting and the shift between the plots continues to the very end.The book has love seeking youngsters, a couple stuck in a rut for eight years in a 'boring marriage',a divorced couple and a couple on the verge of a divorce. It then brings up the idea of poverty and pomp in Las Vegas and the deep culture maintained in Marrakesh, Morocco.
The book has several plots which unite at Adele's concert. The setting is in America, Europe and Africa. Through these characters, the writers shed light on issues that are around us today. These include atheism, hollow worship, social media being used as a tool for virtual falsity, broken marriages, racial and gender stereotyping, culture and parenting.
I like how the plot of the book is well woven, the good choice of words, the imagery and how it generally relates with the contemporary issues of the world. It has a way of gluing you to your seat as you read chapter by chapter. What concerns me about the book is the distorted plot at the end. The tragic irony at the end is quite misplaced. There are also quite too many characters in the book and some failed to reflect their purpose quite fully.
I rate this book at 3 out of 4 because of it fails at bringing the expectation of the reader to reality at the end. The applied tragic irony throws away the intensity of the whole struggle witnessed by the characters earlier on in the book. In addition to its moderate vocabulary and synchronized plot despite the numerous characters. It also has a good choice of words. It is generally relatable to the current world thus interesting.the ending seems unnatural.
This book would be most appealing to the youth as they are the most involved with Adele's music, social media, love seeking adventures and in broken and struggling marriages and would be least appealing to the conservative members who cling to stereotypes and are staunch traditionalists especially when it comes to gender related issues e.g. women's rights.
