Keys to Harmony by Margalit Jakob is an intense, heartfelt memoir on how to battle with depression. The author shares her experiences through this beautifully written book. She was a skilled pianist who began experiencing several ups and downs that at first didn't make sense to her.

She started to alter her sleep patterns thinking it would help, not until she realised she was suffering from depression. She narrated her experiences with a doctor who didn't give much attention to her problems but only advised her to stick to her medications (she described this as not getting adequate help despite seeking help from the appropriate source). She also shared her ordeal at an audition where she was rudely spoken to, and this triggered depression in her.Margalit Jakob shared her experiences unashamedly through this book. There were times she found it difficult to go about her daily activities, take her medications, or even communicate effectively. Depression also affected her ability to play the piano. Her husband, Elisha, was a present help, always ready to encourage her. Through years of therapy, she learnt how to manage depression and determine her drug dosage. Slowly, she got her life back and was able to help others through her experiences.

Reading this book, I realised that people go through a lot, and we should be kind to them in any way possible. Rude words or inability to give listening ears to people's problems can further exacerbate the situation. In all, I'm glad Margalit won the battle against depression and is using this medium to reach out to others faced with the same condition. I didn't find anything to dislike about this book. Although I found a small section of the book a bit difficult to comprehend, it didn't affect my overall enjoyment of the book. For the above-mentioned reasons, I give this book five out of five stars. It was exceptionally well edited, as I found no errors in it. I recommend Keys to Harmony to people battling with depression and lovers of good memoirs.
