For people who are looking for a more holistic method of caring for their pets this book does provide some insight into that option. It gives some background information on why commercial pet feed (as it’s referred to in the book) is bad for your dog and what you should be feeding them instead. It also includes references to research both old and new that backs up their claims regarding the pet food industry and the pet food that we’re feeding to our pets as a whole.

The author talks about raw dehydrated foods, allergy diets, different types of diseases that can affect pets and even vaccinations. It’s not just about switching your dog over to a healthy diet that includes only real foods that you prepare yourself but also removing all of the toxins from the environment you keep them in, including medicines that you use to treat or prevent illness. In What the Pet Food Industry is Not Telling You, you’ll read about all of the different toxins that are found in our pets, how they get there and what you should be doing about it. It also gives examples of what they consider to be optimum meal plans for your dog, what kind of foods they should eat (types of meat, fruits, and vegetables) and treats to give.

There are several tips on what you can do to improve your dog’s diet or restore it to a more natural standard however some of these, like the idea of having your dog fast for up to 48 hours, seem unsafe. On top of that, they claim that they have nothing against veterinarians but then talk about how they are basically in it to make money, it’s not their job to make your dog healthy and so on. Some of the content here seems helpful but others you may want to weigh out carefully before you decide to try.

There are a number of grammatical errors throughout the book however they don’t really impede your ability to understand what’s being said. The book seems contradictory in some respects (for example, at one point it mentions dogs being just like wolves and wolves eat the organs first because there are the most nutrients there but then later mentions organs as a ‘disgusting byproduct’ that are used in pet feeds also supporting the idea of primarily vegan or vegetarian diets for your dog? After spending so long saying that your dog needs real, raw meat?), and highly repetitive, but does also provide some good information. Weigh out everything you read carefully to decide if it's good or not. You'll find a mix of information in here. For that reason, I would rate it a 3 out of 5.
