Can I Be Frank?
By: Rob Wyatt

In this novel Can I Be Frank the author starts the story on an airplane that is headed to America. The Catholic Priest Father Frank has high hopes for his new calling in Florida. His faith is uncontainable, as he staggers along with bad luck that seems to follow him wherever he goes. Keeping his heart light, Father Frank prepares his homily for his first mass. When he starts talking to his parishioners he realizes the difficulties that he might have with some of them. Because he is “forbidden fruit” women hit on him because he is someone that they can’t have. One of those women is Carly Charmois, wife of Gene Charmois one of the most powerful men in Florida, also one of the most generous donators to the Saint Francis of Assi Church. He soon realizes that Gene Charmois is a bully, and that he must tread carefully around him and his wife, as not to lose one of their best donators. Pursue Father Frank’s difficulties in trying to please his bishop as well as his parishioners.

Who is Father Frank? Father Frank is an Englishman with a sense of humor that everyone seems to understand except him. His past is one that has been followed by bad luck. One time at his old church, he poisoned the seminary’s herd of pigs by accident, flooded the lady’s chapel, and destroyed the kitchen in a fire. So, Father Anthony, Father Frank’s priest at home, was anxious to get rid of him and readily agreed to his decision to become a priest, as long as he went elsewhere. When Father Frank did go to the United States he was greeted by his caretaker, Martha, who had a frosty glare. After Father William picked him up at the airport, he took Father Frank to his new home and continued to indulge himself and Frank with some drinks that were in the fridge. Waking up to Martha glaring at him with a pounding headache and a homily to prepare wasn’t exactly what he had in mind for his first day in his new home.

There were many details that I enjoyed about this book. The author Rob Wyatt has a wicked humor that was woven in with Father Frank’s misfortunes and makes you chuckle. His use of vocab also expounds your knowledge to a little bit of English words which made the text very interesting to read. His book was in the very least never boring, and I enjoyed reading about Father Frank’s view about what was happening in the story. The final detail that I liked was that there was nothing even remotely inappropriate about this book but is still interesting enough for everyone of all ages to read. I recommend everyone of all ages to read this book.

The only thing I disliked was that the book may be a bit slow moving at times, other than that it was fine. I didn’t catch any mistakes in grammar or spelling.

I am very impressed with this novel; Can I Be Frank? All 70 chapters of this book is written very well, so I give this book the rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I have to admit when I first read the title of the book I didn’t think it would be interesting. Goes to prove that you should never judge a book by it's cover.
