Review of Seeing with Fresh Eyes
[Following is a volunteer review of "Seeing with Fresh Eyes" by John W. Bullock.]
"Seeing With Fresh Eyes"
Author: John W. Bullock
The author offers a unique perspective on the difference between seeing and looking. Although he grew up in a Bible-believing church, the author felt he was losing the essence of the message, the miracle. To strengthen his relationship with God, he decided to read the Gospels with an open mind. With a master’s degree in Biblical Studies and living in Colorado, "Seeing With Fresh Eyes" is his debut book.
This book reveals the author’s discoveries and questions about the Bible and Jesus’s purpose in coming to the world to save us. It encourages readers to continue studying on their own and also addresses certain mistaken beliefs about Christianity that we may hold or have been taught. Ultimately, this book reflects on the goodness of the salvation God has provided for us.
From my perspective, this is a magnificent book written by an author who has a deep understanding of the Bible and knows how to interpret it beyond a literal translation. He recognizes the multiple meanings a single word can hold in the original language of the Bible, like Hebrew. As a Christian who speaks Hebrew, I can attest to the richness behind these meanings, which are not always fully captured in translations.
The author has a special ability to see beyond what’s written in the Bible, as the book’s title suggests, and offers perspectives we may not have considered before. For those who thought they understood the Bible simply by reading it, he encourages us to delve deeper. His high level of insight leads us to reconsider the true message within the Bible, one we may not have recognized until reading this book. He teaches that to see with fresh eyes, we must focus on Jesus.
This book encourages us to live in God’s Spirit, focus on His love, and advance His kingdom by teaching and embodying His truth. Personally, reading this book has been incredibly helpful in strengthening my faith and reaffirming my Christian life: obeying God more and striving to be more humble. I believe more people should read this book, as it genuinely opens our eyes and immerses us in a new understanding of God’s message and Jesus Christ.
I was so captivated by the book that I wanted to read it again, to go deeper into its message and reconsider the questions the author poses at the end for further reflection. I found myself relating to these questions for meditation, which made me feel connected to the author as if he were a true friend by the end of my reading.
Trust God’s love for you, and you will find true life, true freedom, and rest for your soul. This is the book’s final message.
