Review: Survive! Marooned on Planet Tau-Ceti-G
by Charles P. Graham.
"Sometimes hardship brings knowledge...." consoles a character in the vividly descriptive technological delight; Survive! Marooned on Planet Tau-Ceti-G by Charles P. Graham.
As obvious from the book's title, it is a story of survival. It reminds us of Robinson Crusoe's adventures in the classic novel Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe, written in 1719.
Although the plot may appear familiar, the author's presentation is remarkable.
It is not a story about a single person rather its focus is on the antics of seven highly educated, technologically sound individuals who are marooned on a newly discovered planet 'Tau-Ceti-G' in another galaxy. The Planet incidentally shares similar conditions where life can exist as the Earth. The survivors were not shipwrecked but spaceship-wrecked. Their ship was caught in a meteor storm while going through one of its interdimensional journeys of space exploration.
What ensues is a paradigm of events enfolding much more exciting than the original piece. The story is in the future, so all the norms and situations vary from what we might expect. However, empathy, resilience, weaknesses, and responses are age-old in human history.
It is a tale of hyperspace travel where FTL (Faster Than Light) speed is not just a figment of imagination. Suspense and surrealism keep the adrenaline-charged. The readers find it hard to put the book down before reaching the end.
It is a good book for teenagers. It is ideal for those who get inspired by scientific thriller stories. It is also for those adults who enjoy fascinating extrapolations that enhance their knowledge and open new vistas.
The thrilling story is rated four stars out of five in my view as it is very informative, riveting, and most vividly described. Graham is so thorough in details that the reader is easily captivated and transported within the action and place of the events. Kudos to the American traditions that prepare its citizens for a rigorous aptitude of sustaining in any given scenario. Nothing is spared for the reader whether it is the mesmerizing sunrise or sunsets, the gory details of the challenges, faced by the characters, or their enrapturing sentiments.
The inclusion of an intelligent species is unique in that, a half-dog and half-other animal is described in the story. This keeps the Earth's tradition alive, that of a dog being a man's best friend. This is for the characters as well as for the dog lovers.
The grotesque bloodied fights might be too much for some sensitive souls.
Otherwise, I recommend the book for one and all to be enjoyed.
Happy reading!
