The Beaulieu Birthright is a romantic novel by Australian author and reformed university academic Caenys Kerr. Though I am not a fan of romantic fiction, I give this one a try as Caenys Kerr is a seasoned writer in her field.

The novel depicts the romance between Iona and Enzo. But it is not a typical love story; rather, it depicts pictures of power hunger, unfathomable love among siblings, jealousy, and a toxic relationship with a parent. The love between Iona and Enzo has to undergo multiple misunderstandings to realise their inevitable need for one another. Furthermore, the sisterly love between Iona and Agnes proves that twins are connected deeply beyond human comprehension.

Here, the author depicts her extensive knowledge of perfumery. Her descriptions of various countries and their spectacular places, food and cultures prove her wide knowledge and experience. She also mentions the adverse effects of gambling and superstitious beliefs that can shatter relationships.

I like the simplicity of the narrative style. The author does not overcrowd her novel with numerous unnecessary characters. I am greatly amused by the depth of love and understanding between Iona and Agnes.

I dislike how this novel turns quite pornographic at a certain point. There was no strong bond in the storyline and the ending of this novel seems unrealistic and sudden. I think the author tries to cover her deficiency in drawing a realistic, heart-touching romantic fiction by using sexual description at an exaggerated level.

However, this book is professionally edited and I cannot find any typos. I would like to give this book a rating of 2 out of 5 stars as it fails to draw my attention to the real storyline. I would recommend this novel only to those who want to read a really hot romantic novel without any captivating plot.
