This was a very fun book to read. If you enjoy a classic high-stakes predictable crime thriller, then this one is for you. Most of the story takes place in LA and delves into the underbelly of Hollywood, which I guess is obvious from the title.

The plot was enjoyable and had a nice pace. The story follows Dash, also known as Morty…or Robert. Let’s stick with Dash. He is a renowned clinical astrologer who is on the run after getting on the bad side of what is essentially a Hollywood mafia lord. He executes a sweet escape complete with a new identity, and starts a new life in a remote mountain town. However, he is soon dragged back to Hollywood when one of his close friends, who happens to be a Hollywood veteran actress, is mysteriously kidnapped, and his help is needed to solve the mystery. The story features elements of romance, crime, betrayal and a daring rescue.

We also meet a host of interesting characters along the way including, but not limited to, a very “public” private investigator, a surly FBI agent, and a sullen old fisherman, amongst others. The character development was quite good, with relationships between the characters well established, although there were a few characters who seemingly disappeared without an explanation partway through the book.

Now, even though the plot was solid and the characters were fun, the editing of this book left much to be desired. There were misspellings, missing words, duplicated words and other things that made me wonder if the book was proofread at all. There were so many typographical errors which ended up lowering the rating for me.

Overall it was a good book. A refreshing feel-good crime novel, if there ever was one, where everything tied together nicely. The editing could have been better but I would still recommend this book to anyone looking for a pleasant light crime read.
