Do you ever wonder if there's more to the natural world than meets the eye? Charlie Sheldon's thrilling novel Totem explores this question in the final installment of his Strong Heart trilogy. Set in the Northwest, the story follows Sarah Cooley and her family and friends on a hiking trip to Bear Valley. Their peaceful adventure takes a dramatic turn when they encounter mysterious events that challenge their understanding of the world.

At Olympic National Park, their paths converge with Carl, a scientist investigating wildlife deaths, and employees of the Buckhorn Corporation, which has mining operations in the area. However, Bear Valley's secret could disrupt the corporation's plans. Will Sarah and her newfound allies succeed in uniting to stop the mining operation? Dive into Totem to uncover the suspenseful truth.

Although this novel is the last in its series, I was able to follow up and understand the plot. The in-depth descriptions and outline used make the story more realistic. The book was informative, sharing some historical and geographical knowledge worthy of knowing. I was inspired to catch up on the previous installments due to the satisfaction this novel gave me. I like that there were several suspense and twists triggered throughout the book, keeping readers intrigued. The author ensured the characters were developed and elaborated on appropriately. My favorite character was Sarah due to her strong will, determination, and wisdom despite her young age. Although fictitious, the author vehemently tried to make the book so realistic.

A downside to this book was its extreme length, which slowed my reading pace and focus. The book didn't provide a table of contents for easy navigation. It, however, displayed appropriate maps of the North Pacific for more details. The book was professionally well-edited, as I encountered some errors while reading. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars. There were instances of profanity and minor sexual content.

The book is recommended to lovers of adventure, nature, and suspense-filled stories. It would also interest fans of discovery, i.e., archaeologists.
