"Opaque" by Calix Leigh-Reign takes readers on an enchanting journey into a fantastical world where secrets, self-discovery, and the power of decisions shape the destiny of a young protagonist, Adam. After his 16th birthday, Adam begins to feel disconnected from the human world, seeking solace in the company of the wind and isolating himself from others. However, everything changes when Carly, the new girl at school, enters his life, pulling him inexplicably towards her. As they unravel secrets about Adam's true identity, he must make crucial choices to protect those he loves.

The plot and character development in Opaque are astounding. The seamless flow of events and the masterful setup kept me in awe, and each revelation was a mind-blowing experience. The story artfully weaves itself around the pivotal characters, immersing readers in a world that is magical. While the vocabulary is high-level, it elevates the overall narrative by making it an ethereal experience.

At first, the book's beginning and initial character behavior raised some concerns, but these quickly evolve into a captivating and enjoyable continuation. The story's buildup throughout is intense, but the climax seemed a bit rushed, leaving me wanting more from the final confrontation. Despite this minor flaw, the book remains highly enjoyable, evoking deep emotions and touching the heartstrings, even bringing tears to the eyes.

The editing of the book is well-done. It is one of the few books where I did not find any proofreading or developmental errors, which adds immensely to the reading experience.

Opaque holds a profound message that any single decision can alter the course of one's life and that understanding our true selves is the key to escaping darkness. Despite its very few imperfections, the book liberated me through its captivating narrative and themes. It is one of my favorites among fantasy books.

I give Opaque a well-deserved 5 out of 5. I wholeheartedly recommend it, urging readers to persevere past the darker opening chapters and embrace the forthcoming light.
