Review of Play Golf Better Faster: The Little Golf Bag Book
Kalliope Barlis' "Play Golf Better Faster: The Little Golf Bag Book" is a comprehensive guide to improving one's golf game, both psychologically and practically. Being an expert in NLP, Barlis focused on the positive mind and visualization as keys to success and provided various drills to improve specific skills. With this book, she brought mental discipline together with practice so that, under pressure, one could apply the skills learned. Kalliope Barlis trains golfers on how to reprogram their minds with neuro-linguistic programming combined with golfing techniques to yield better results on the course. This guide is valuable not just for improving golf; it also contributes a lot toward personal growth and is relevant to various areas of life.
What really sets this book apart from other golf instructional books, however, is the fact that the author is experienced in neuro-linguistic programming, or NLP. The key difference is that while Barlis does teach how one should reprogram one's mind by replacing negative thoughts with positive thoughts for extraordinary results on the golf course, she takes a very effective approach towards taming the mental blocks that come into play while playing. This application of NLP techniques builds confidence, reduces anxiety, and maintains concentration throughout the game. This mental edge could prove very useful to those golfers striving to advance in their game.
Another positive point relating to this book is that it states that practice needs to be varied and is mind-driven. She elaborates that when training, a person will not get better from simply going out and hitting balls, but rather through deliberate and reflective practice in training like one would play the actual game. By encouraging various angles, distances, and conditions in practice, she concentrates on target awareness and adaptation. It helps golfers gain insight into their game, which leads to steady improvements in performance. In practice, since quality is emphasized over quantity, every session tends to be full of productivity and the enhancement of skills, thus boosting confidence in the course.
I didn't dislike anything in this book. It was really well edited, with no grammatical errors discovered. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I would recommend "Play Golf Better Faster" to any golfer seriously interested in improving his or her game and who doesn't mind looking into the mental aspects involved in playing golf. This book is going to resonate with people who are looking for a more holistic approach and who couple physical drilling with mental conditioning. Furthermore, the principles of NLP, as introduced in this book, help not only in golf but even in other areas of life. Thus, reading this book should turn out to be very useful to every person interested in self-improvement.
