We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a gripping fantasy novel that proves to be an excellent base for the series called 'We Are Voulhire' written by the author. This is book number one in the series, and it will grab your attention from the first page. This book has a brilliant delivery that will force you to go for the next book in the series because you will find it hard to resist the urge.

Lands of the Princes, where a decade-long war between the princes created a dreadful situation for the common people. It was, in the author's words, "death by the sword, or a slow starvation." In this dire situation, Galen Bray, who thought he lost all of his family during the war and was alone in this cruel world, took the first opportunity to flee from this abominable place upon finding out that he still has an uncle residing in Magnum Caelum, a town in the great country of Voulhire, who is very ill and looking for him to inherit his assets as the heir. Watch Galen's journey under the great sky of Voulhire as he starts his life anew, meeting kind people, learning his uncle's business, and coming across unexpected situations while looking for a special steel called 'Lactis' in the town of Alcovia.

But that's not all in this book, as you will read numerous adventurous, mysterious, suspenseful, and cunning events happening in other parts of Voulhire. Where you will see terrifying and mysterious conspiracies happening and a horrible massacre blended with magic with a tormenting description of death that will make you jump out of your seat. Particularly, I find the character of Lord Meldorath very intriguing, even though he's a negative character. It's a whirlwind ride of anticipation as you read through the pages.

The most intriguing aspect of the book that kept me hooked throughout is the amazing blend of mystery, mischief, magic, and action, along with the deep emotional depth of the book. It's very astonishing to witness the creativity and broad imagination of the author. Galen's journey made me emotional multiple times, and the cunningness of Lord Meldorath heightened my curiosity and gave me this thrilling adrenaline rush that I love to experience while reading a fantasy book. This book transcends the genre of fantasy as it has mystery and action elements in it as well. Additionally, the character development was commendable, as there are extremely negative characters like Meldorath alongside kind and positive characters like Rowan, Galen's uncle's executor.

As the book progresses, you will see how the author intertwines Galen's journey with what's happening in other parts of Voulhire and the characters there, as while searching for 'Lactis' in Alcovia, Galen and Rowan will discover about a rare mysterious metal that could potentially have magic in it, which a mage is looking for in Alcovia and which Lord Meldorath also has his eyes on for some mysterious reason. Furthermore, I would like to commend the author's attention to detail. Because the descriptions of magical events are very well described, I can imagine every part, and the reference guide at the end helped. By magic, I didn't mean tricks. It is real magic where someone would create a flame by moving their hands a certain way, so such unrealistic things are often hard to imagine if not described thoroughly, but the author nailed it. It's a book that has a lot of potential in it and is hard to resist.

There's not anything that I particularly dislike. This book is meant to set the base of the series, so it will end on a cliffhanger with lots of unanswered questions so that readers are eager to know more and will jump to the next book in the series. I have a Kindle Unlimited subscription, so I'm already on the second book because I just can't resist the pull to know what will happen next. So this proves how captivating the plot is. Also, it's important to note that this book does contain extreme curse words, gruesome violence, and indirect references to child abuse. So sensitive readers should take note. But for me, I enjoyed the book in its entirety.

In conclusion, it was a pleasure to delve into this book. And with all that in mind, I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. I didn't notice any grammatical errors in the book, so it's professionally edited. And there is nothing to detract from its perfect rating. I recommend this book to all fantasy and mystery lovers, as well as to those who love action and adventure. I appreciate the author for creating such an impressive craft.
