Review of Play Golf Better Faster: The Classic Guide to Optimizing Your Performance and Building Your Best Fast
This book, Play Golf Better Faster: The Classic Guide to Optimizing Your Performance and Building Your Best Fast by Kalliope Barlis, discusses ways to optimize our lives. The author mentioned that the better we feel about being alive and having a clear vision of our future, the better our lives will become. The author showed how this mental development helped shape her golf career. Despite starting to play golf in her mid-twenties and having all odds against her as she was not prepared from an early age, she took to having the "I can do it" mentality, which has helped her attain the heights she could boldly speak of and even teach in the book.
One point I am taking home is to always have a still and calm mind. Reading the topic "You're Smart—Promoting Stillness into Action," I noticed that this is a huge part of achieving anything. Sometimes, we are too busy and crowded, and our brains cannot take in the critical details of our environment. I always wondered why the quietest people in the room always see everything and usually have a lot of wisdom to share. Reading this topic helped me realize that it is probably because they have mastered the act of having a still and calm mind that their brain can really soak in all the details of their environment. This is also one attribute that will always be found in every wealthy person. I believe everyone needs to learn this, as it is of great use for everyday survival. This is one of the standout aspects of this book for me. I also noticed exercises added at the end of the chapters. It felt like a meditation series where I got to internalize the contents I had just read and put them into action. The book also discusses some lifestyle changes that have helped people and will help anyone trying them out. I also loved that the book emphasizes learning from our experiences. Most people take failure as a stop rather than preparation for the next move.
This book is something I will revisit. The content is not limited to golfers or those aspiring to become golfers. The book also contains information on how to maintain youth and performance. I have no negative feelings toward this book. I found a few minor errors, but the book stood out for its practicality. The book deserves a perfect five out of five-star rating for its excellent content and is recommended for readers who enjoy self-improvement books. I recommend this book for golfers trying to settle into the game and make the most of their experience.
