In Ekta R. Garg’s book, In the Heart of the Linden Wood, we follow the heartwarming story of a king who embarks on a journey to save his kingdom’s prized possession—it’s magical wood. Prior to this journey, King Christopher faces the loss of his beloved queen and his stillborn child. After self-proclaimed vigilantes besiege the castle, the king is forced to flee with his confidant and trusted soldier, Malcolm. He makes this decision because he refuses to lose yet another thing: his status as king, the trust of the Lindeners, and the wood, which is the kingdom’s strength. Along the way, he crosses paths with Geraldine, the healer that he holds responsible for his wife’s and unborn child’s deaths. Together with her son, Alistair, who seems to have a much deeper connection to the woods, she joins the king on this journey. We see how this journey brings about revelations, sacrifice from all four participants, challenges, and unity.

This book was nothing short of amazing. It is a fairytale, but it doesn't lack the aspect of realism. I loved how the characters were relatable and realistic. Each character had strengths and weaknesses, fears and ambitions, and tough times that they had to endure. This gave me, as the reader, the ability to empathise with the characters. I loved the tempo at which the plot progressed. I mostly loved the fact that the storyline wasn't predictable.

I can hardly fault this book with anything. It had the right balance of reality and fantasy. It evoked much emotion in me. The author kept the innocence of a fairytale by leaving out erotica and explicit content, but also kept it mature enough for its adult audience.

I enjoyed reading this book. The book maintained a lighthearted and hopeful tone throughout. I love the fact that the narrative was easy to comprehend. I was impressed by how well it was edited. It was descriptive and enthralling. Therefore, I give it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.

I recommend this book to lovers of fairytales. It entails a great deal of drama, so I would recommend it to those who love drama.
