Reading We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz was an intriguing experience. This first book in a nine-part series introduces a kingdom where magic and religion are central to life. The story unfolds through multiple perspectives, including the journey of Galen, the main character, and the challenges faced by the new lord of Hillport, creating a rich and immersive world.

Initially, the book felt slow, more like an introduction than a self-contained story. This setup, however, is necessary as Galen, new to this land, mirrors the reader's curiosity, helping us understand the complex world of Voulhire. This approach ensures that readers gradually become familiar with the setting and the characters, making the learning process feel natural.

As I progressed, I found myself more engaged. The author skillfully intertwines elements of the real world with the magical universe, addressing human issues thoughtfully. The detailed descriptions and character development, especially Galen's dedication to his uncle’s blacksmith legacy, kept my interest. The narrative's gradual build-up allows readers to invest in Galen’s journey and the unfolding events.

One of the standout aspects of the book is its use of multiple perspectives, which allowed me to connect with different characters and understand their opinions and experiences. The dialogues, especially between the king and the Chancellor, add a lot of depth to the story. This multi-faceted storytelling creates a well-rounded view of the kingdom's complexities and the various forces at play.

Despite the slow start, the unique and fascinating world, combined with the author's excellent writing, made me want to continue the series. The meticulous editing, with no noticeable grammatical errors, added to the overall reading experience. The prose flows smoothly, making it easier to immerse oneself in the intricate plot.

I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. While the beginning was repetitive and slow, the latter half offered enough intrigue and enjoyment to compensate. I found nothing to dislike about this book. I highly recommend this book to fantasy enthusiasts who appreciate intricate world building and political intrigue. However, it might be challenging for those who aren’t fluent in English due to the informal expressions used throughout. Overall, We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is a promising start to an interesting series, and I look forward to seeing how the story develops in future installments.
