Till I Bleed No More by Alexander Ellis is an enthralling historical fiction novel that follows the journey of young pirate Casper Nait and his friend Fletch as they strive to survive after being stranded on Twin-Leaf Island. Their ordeal begins after an English woman and her crew defeat their pirate comrades in 1728, leaving Casper and Fletch as the only survivors. Despite the dire situation, Casper clings to the hope of avenging his fallen captain and crew, driven by the promise he made to safeguard valuable maps for Captain Maroo.

Ellis masterfully narrates the tale from Casper’s perspective, creating vivid imagery of the island's sandy beaches, dense jungles, and the threats lurking within, such as humongous boa constrictors and aggressive sea creatures. The novel effectively conveys the emotions of hopelessness, isolation, and fear that envelop Casper and Fletch as they navigate their precarious existence on the uninhabited island. The arrival of women escaping colonial oppression on a ship called Serpent initially seems like a lifeline, but their fleeting presence only deepens the sense of abandonment when the ship departs while Casper and Fletch are asleep.

The book stands out for its unique storyline and its compelling characters. Casper and Fletch's resilience and bravery are highlighted throughout their numerous confrontations and adventures. Ellis also includes female pirates, adding an intriguing twist to the narrative and challenging traditional views of piracy as a male-dominated domain. This inclusion not only enriches the story but also adds depth to the characters and their interactions.

Despite some instances of gory violence and the theme of slavery, which are fitting for the genre, the novel remains a captivating read. The violent encounters and bloody battles are portrayed realistically, making the story more immersive. The only minor drawback is the occasional lack of professional editing, which slightly detracts from the otherwise seamless narrative.

I would rate this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. While it could benefit from more polished editing, the engaging plot, well-developed characters, and intense action sequences make it a standout piece of historical fiction. Ellis’s ability to weave a gripping tale that combines elements of survival, revenge, and camaraderie ensures that readers are hooked from start to finish.

Till I Bleed No More is a must-read for anyone who enjoys adventure-packed historical fiction about pirates. Its richly detailed settings, complex characters, and thrilling plot twists promise an unforgettable journey into the treacherous and fascinating world of 18th-century piracy.
