Truth and Evil by G. Edward Martin is a fast-paced novelette about a young German soldier in World War II. This young soldier is faced with many decisions that he feels he made correctly, but when he is killed and faces God, he slowly learns that he has been led astray. That his choices have consequences.

At the beginning of this novelette, the young soldier is faced with a very important choice that will change the course of his life. Unfortunately, he let evil take over and chose to partake in a horrendous deed. He soon gets killed and is sent before God for judgment. God, being merciful, sends the young soldier back to earth to relive that scenario so he can make the right choice. So he can save his soul.

The young soldier goes through many more of these scenarios as it is not clear at first what he thinks God wants him to do. For example, on page 15 "He was being given a second chance. But to do what? he wondered." After the first instance of being sent back, the young soldier was confused and did not understand what God wanted him to accomplish. This continues as a theme throughout the book but eventually, the young soldier sees, truly sees the righteous path from the evil one.

This was tough to read at times due to the descriptions of rape and violence, but I am glad I was able to continue reading as the moral of the story is beautiful. The author did a wonderful job at reeling me in and I could not put the book down. I found no real mistakes while reading and I rate Truth and Evil by G. Edward Martin 5 out of 5 stars. I would recommend this novelette to a mature audience who would be okay with the dark and graphic scenes.
