Calix Leigh-Reign's "Opaque" introduces the Scion Saga series, a masterwork of young adult literature that skillfully combines themes of science fiction, fantasy, and coming-of-age. Leigh-Reign masterfully creates a world full of secrets, extraordinary abilities, and a hidden legacy just waiting to be discovered.

The protagonist of the tale is Adam, a young man with a perverse and dark mindset who is struggling with a persistent feeling of alienation. With the arrival of Carly, a new student in Adam's school, who ignites a friendship that develops into something more, his world abruptly changes. Carly's arrival, though, is merely one element of a bigger picture. Adam quickly learns he has extraordinary powers and a secret lineage that connects him to a hidden world. With this revelation, he joins a group of individuals who possess extraordinary powers similar to his own. For centuries, their ancestors and present generation have been hunted, tortured, and killed by a secret organisation called Iksha.

The characters in "Opaque" are more than just stereotypes; they are complex, multifaceted people. Adam is an engaging main character who must learn to accept who he really is and navigate a society that has kept him in the dark. Strong and resourceful, Carly is a source of encouragement and hope for Adam. Leigh-Reign skillfully incorporates elements of young adult romance into the thrilling sci-fi adventure. Adam and Carly's blossoming love story adds an extra layer of emotional depth. The main protagonist's growth and development were what I enjoyed most about this book, even though at first his actions and demeanour made me despise him. I almost put this book down after what he did to Terry, the grocery store employee. Thus, the most satisfying aspect for me is witnessing how much Adam changed for the better.

There is nothing bad to say about the book, as my one and only dislike ended up becoming my favourite aspect. Leigh-Reign does a great job of introducing the main characters, creating the fictional world of the Scion saga series, and laying the groundwork for the other books in the series. I give this book a rating of five out of five stars. This book was professionally edited and has no grammatical errors.

"Opaque" is an incredible debut in a series that demonstrates Leigh-Reign's extraordinary talent. For young adults looking for an exciting adventure with a wonderful mix of romance and self-discovery, I highly recommend this story because it is such an exciting book to read.
