"The Advent of Time" by Indignus Servus is a religious book based on Catholic teachings, specifically the catechism. The book seeks to explain why mankind experiences pain and suffering in the temporal world, how this world came into existence, and how humanity can be redeemed into a timeless realm referred to as heaven.

To accomplish this, the writer delves into the beginning of time when humanity was created, aiming to understand why God, described as all-loving, all-powerful, all-just, and all-wise, created mankind. God created humanity in his image and likeness to experience relational love with him, entering into an eternal relationship where time did not exist.

However, due to humanity's ability to exercise free will, they entered a temporal world from a "supratemporal" realm, where they experienced direct relational love with God, by sinning through selfish actions. In this time-based world, humanity experiences suffering, pain, and disconnection from God as a result of sin.

It's intriguing how the writer also addresses the question of why an omniscient God would create humanity, knowing they would sin and deviate from relational love. Despite this, God, being "omnibenevolent", had a plan to redeem humanity from the temporal world governed by the laws of physics, into a "supratemporal" realm where humanity would have absolute power over the creations placed under him. This plan required God to allow his only begotten son to experience the same pain as humanity and die in order to redeem them from sin and the temporary world, making them united with the creator once again. I liked this comprehensive explanation.

The lesson I took from the book is that, through faith in God, humanity is able to be redeemed. The book is intriguing as it addresses the existential question of why there is pain and suffering in the world despite the existence of an all-loving God. I rate the book 4 out of 5 stars. This is because, while it answers questions about human suffering, it is somewhat one-sided, focusing solely on Catholic teachings. There are no other complaints I have about it, though. The book was exceptionally well-edited.
