Review of Opaque
[Following is a volunteer review of "Opaque" by Calix Leigh-Reign.]
Opaque by Cālix Leigh-Reign is a story that unfolds as Adam discovers that he is a descendant, part of a biologically evolved group of humans with extraordinary abilities. His life takes a dramatic turn as he learns about his true heritage and the powers he possesses, which include manipulating matter with his mind—a trait known as biogenesis. Throughout the book, Adam navigates a tumultuous relationship with his mother, Jo, whose own secrets and struggles with a serum that grants extended youth add layers of complexity to their dynamic. As Adam's relationship with Carly, another descendant, deepens, they explore their abilities together, learning about their ancestry and the dangerous forces that seek to control or destroy them.
The story is set against the backdrop of Piure, California, where Adam and Carly, along with other descendants, uncover the dark history of their families and the scientific exploitation they endured. They must come to terms with their identities and the responsibilities that come with their powers while facing the threat of the Iksha, a group intent on eradicating their kind. As Adam and Carly's bond strengthens, they confront the challenges of their past and the uncertainty of their future. The book is a journey of self-discovery, acceptance, and the fight against the darkness within and outside oneself. What I like about this book is how it offers a great way for me to escape. When I read about Adam's journey, it feels like I'm stepping into a world where the challenges aren't just typical teenage problems. Instead, Adam struggles with strange powers and a family history full of secrets. It's the kind of escape that not only entertains me but also sparks my imagination. I started thinking about what it would be like if these powers and conflicts were real. Plus, the reveal about Adam's twin brother and the true nature of his abilities adds to the excitement. It helps me forget about my everyday life and immerse myself in a world where every page turn brings more mystery and adventure.
There is nothing to dislike about this book because it's packed with suspense and mystery. I'm always on the edge of my seat, trying to piece together the clues and figure out what's going on. Every chapter seems to reveal a new secret or twist that I didn't see coming, and it makes me want to keep reading to see how it all ties together. The way the past is slowly revealed is like putting together a puzzle, and I love the thrill of finally seeing the big picture. It's the kind of book that's hard to put down because you're just so eager to find out what happens next. The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free.

The rating stays the same because the book is full of suspense and surprises, making it exciting to read. Each chapter reveals new secrets and twists that make you want to keep reading to find out what happens next. Finding out more about the past adds depth to the story, like putting together a puzzle, which I like. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a thrilling adventure story.
