Reminiscent of Game of Thrones, "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" casts the reader into a strange new, yet familiar world filled with interesting characters of unknown loyalties. While learning the politics and history of the world, the reader follows Galen, a new immigrant to the land.

Galen is an interesting character, almost getting the reader to cheer and worry for him as the story progresses. Because Galen’s story is written in first person, while the rest of the book is written in third person, the reader is left eager to get back to Galen’s stories and see how the information in the other chapters will impact Galen.

Galen’s story, as well as the information the reader knows and is waiting for Galen to learn, teams up to leave the reader speculating on the motivation of the various people he meets. Throughout the book there was mystery and intrigue related to various characters and factions leaving the reader captivated and working to determine the characters loyalties and motivation.

The end result was a world where I, as the reader, became invested in the story of Voulhire itself, as well at the citizens. I was left wanting to know more about how the story plays out for Galen, as well as the citizens of both Voulhire overall and the city of Hillport. Fortunately, this introduction to the world is followed by more books to feed the appetite it creates.

I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars because it captivated my attention with well-developed characters and descriptions of the world. I could envision the story as it unfolded before me. There were no grammatical or typographical errors I noticed that detracted from the enjoyment of the story.

The book is perfect for a reader who enjoys a fantasy world with magic, but where the existence of magic is well woven into the politics and history of the characters’ world.
