LaBlance Fish Tales Two by Peter F LaBlance is a rich compilation of fishing stories, blending themes of history, family experiences, and personal reflections. Particularly Lake Superior, as well as the personal experiences of the author and their family. Emerald LaBlance owned a commercial fishing business, and the book includes stories from family members and old newspaper stories. The book seems to include anecdotes from various family members, including the narrator’s siblings and spouse, as well as personal experiences of starting as a commercial fisherman at a young age. The narrator mentions that some of the stories have been recounted from memory after a fire, adding a personal and nostalgic touch to the collection.

What I like about this book is the detailed and immersive descriptions of the monotonous yet precise work of stringing fishing nets. The author's portrayal of the laborious process involved in commercial fishing, from setting up the basement for net stringing to repairing and making new gill nets, provides a unique insight into the daily life of a commercial fisherman. The meticulous attention to detail in these passages allows the reader to fully grasp the dedication and hard work required in this profession.

The descriptions transport me into the world of commercial fishing, offering a deep appreciation for the intricacies of the trade. I recommend this book to individuals who appreciate narratives that delve into the intricacies of daily tasks and provide a realistic portrayal of the challenges and dedication required in fishing. The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free.

What I dislike about this book is the treatment of the protagonist by her brothers. Despite being the youngest sister, she is not given any slack by her brothers when they all work together as commercial fishermen. This is evident from the descriptions where she mentions that her brothers did not cut her any slack and where she describes the experience of working with her brothers as both a curse and a blessing. This treatment may be seen as unfair and could be a source of discomfort for readers who expect familial support and understanding.

I gave this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. The high rating is primarily due to the commendable aspect of the book, which is the detailed and immersive descriptions of the monotonous yet precise work of stringing fishing. The meticulous attention to detail in these passages creates a vivid and immersive experience, making the daily life of a commercial fisherman come alive to me. However, the lack of family support and understanding, despite being the youngest sister, was quite unfair. All in all, the book excels in providing an immersive portrayal of the commercial fishing profession.
