Review of The Crystilleries of Echoland
The book, The Crystilleries of Echoland, by Dew Pellucid is an intense action and adventure novel that tells of the adventures of Will Cleary and his discovery of the evil within his world. He discovers a “mirror universe” that is parallel to his world where each person has as “Echo”. This parallel universe is called Echoland. In this universe, every person who exists has a mirrored counterpart within the real world, called “Sounds”. Interestingly enough, each Echo only lives so long as the Sound survives. This means that it is possible to kill a Sound if the Echo attached to it is killed within Echoland. In the book, Will and his sister, Emmy, mysteriously disappear one day. Soon, Will returns home while Emmy never comes back. Will is determined to find where his sister has vanished to and must re-trace his steps from the day Emmy disappeared ten years ago.
Overall, I thought the entire plot of the story was very intriguing and held my full attention to the very end of the book. I loved how the book was a combination of action, adventure, mystery, suspense, and coming–of-age. I enjoyed reading about the strong theme of family and friendship within the book as well. I really liked the idea of having a mirror universe that was parallel to the real universe. I loved how the author was able to connect the two very distinct world together for a wonderful story. I also really liked how the author inserted herself into the story. She wrote herself in as a librarian.
Honestly there was nothing that I did not like about the book. I thought the plotline was very strong, and the author had a very imaginative and creative mind when telling this story. I also did not find any typos or grammatical errors while reading the book. This is a testament to the exceptional editing that was completed prior to publication.
I would rate this book five out of five stars for all of the reasons I previously stated. The author was able to grab my attention from the very beginning of the book and held it until the very end.
I would recommend this book to any readers interested in science fiction, mystery, suspense, and adventure stories. Additionally, I think this book is appropriate for any age of reader.
