Review of Somawise
The book Somawise by Luke sniewski is a self-help book that has resonated with me more than any other. Dr. Luke's explanation of how to "get out of your head and into your body" is brilliant and simplified, providing answers to questions that were previously vague. The book fills a significant gap in my journey and is a must-read for anyone on a self-help path or interested in the mind-body relationship.
As a student exploring the question of how people heal, I highly recommend this book. The author's invitation to return to the present moment and experience our bodies as the greatest barometer for accessing our inner truth is insightful. The book acts as a guide to our physical sensations and tensions, supported by academic research, personal experiences, and quotes from unlikely sources.
Somawise delves into the bone-deep experience of healing. The book provides practical methods to connect with discomfort and break free from holding patterns and cycles that lead to frustration and harshness. no
The book continually inspires me. Especially acknowledging how pain is a great teacher.. being with, "experimenting" and transitioning to felt sense is magical. After a stressful week, I meditate, read from this book, reflect, and be with what is. Luke's way with words guided me through some difficult moments and I see him as a powerful mentor.
I have always been one to believe in the value of sharing our personal and vulnerable stories. We can learn so much from each other’s experiences, and we never know whose life we’ll touch by mustering the courage to tell our story like it is. The author did that SO brilliantly by generously and candidly sharing his vulnerability, gifting the reader with such a testimony of triumph, and without sugarcoating the struggles and hard work that led him to where he is today: living a life he loves to live, and that is available to all of us who are willing to do the inner work that Somawise guides us through.
The book is a call to unplug from devices and delve into the most direct resource of our existence- our bodies. By listening to our bodies, we can challenge the beliefs of our minds and live as our authentic selves.
Sniewski's knowledge of neuroscience demonstrates that our behavior is controlled by a complex interplay of subconscious messages, many of which originate in the body. The book is a timely reminder to start paying more attention to our bodies.
My favorite quote from the book is "Somawise means looking beneath the surface of powerful urges and impulses to get to the real message from the body." With all being said I rate this book 4 out of 5
