Man Mission: Four Men, Fifteen Years, One Epic Journey is an adventure stretched out over fifteen years. Every year (since their late twenties), a group of four friends go on a challenging adventure. They called them "Man Missions". On these adventures, they run into drug dealers, near drownings, severe aches and pains, and all sorts of weird food and drinks – with seriously intoxicating results. It tests their endurance to the limit, both physically and mentally. Author Eytan Uliel creates the Man Mission team, the Wives’ Committee, and even a pink bracelet as part of the Man Missions. The characters are real; their lives are ordinary, and their needs are understandable. For the yearly "Man Missions", they go hiking, biking, or kayaking through different countries. They grow and develop through the beauty of nature, physical and mental challenges, as well as a lot of thinking about life’s issues. The reader laughs with them at the occasional slip of embarrassment. We also endure the pain of being tired, hungry, aching, or injured. Man Mission is more than just a group of boys going on yearly manly adventures (according to the wives). It shares with us the changes they go through. Not only as they get married or become parents, but also the way they think.

I appreciate the constant linkage between the men going on the "Man Missions" and their wives. It is exemplary to see modern-day men taking their wives’ opinions and circumstances into consideration. I also noticed that the descriptions and historical facts were presented spontaneously but accurately. Before I read this book, I did not even think twice about the mountains where The Lord of the Rings-movies were made. Do you know where the films were made?

I did not experience any negative moments where I wanted to put the book down. However, it seemed that the author paid more attention to detail in the first couple of "Man Missions". From Man Mission VI, it seemed to be less challenging. It becomes more like a group of guys going on an organized holiday.

I rate Man Mission: Four Men, Fifteen Years, One Epic Journey 5 out of 5 stars. It is a one-of-a-kind book. It is about challenging yourself outside of your physical comfort zone. The book is professionally edited and nicely formatted. Each chapter starts with a map of the area where the next "Man Mission" will take place. At the end of each mission is a short summary stating the basic facts as well as the problems/injuries sustained during the trip. It was mostly presented humorously.

I recommend Man Mission to women whose husbands have an itch for adventure. It could help them understand what men go through as they get older and their lives seem to have become boringly domesticated. They need to escape the office and home routines and just do something manly now and then. This book is equally suited for men who need a challenge. Everybody needs to break away from routine occasionally to be able to rediscover themselves. In general, men are not as willing to discuss their emotions as women are. But they go through life’s physical and emotional changes just like women do. It is my honest opinion that reading Man Mission can assist with some of these issues.
