I picked this book to read so that I could broaden my horizons on the topics of discrimination, bias, and prejudice. I opted to give this book a three star rating in lieu of a four or five star rating. After I began reading this book, I realized that this book has a focus on prejudice and bias in the workplace, and how leaders can portray these types of behaviors. The book outlines how toxic traits such as bias and manipulation can impact a team and can impede career growth and efficiency as a whole. It was very interesting to see how manipulation plays a huge role in all aspects of a workforce, from entry level to leadership. The book had a really great process to follow about proper documentation if you are affected by workplace prejudice. I enjoyed reading and learning about prejudice in the workforce and how to overcome these issues, though it was not entirely what I expected this book to be about. This book raises awareness and promotes education about diversity and inclusion, and can help people become more aware of not only their own bias, but also how bias affects all tiers of the workforce. I am glad the book contains several tables of definitions describing different types of bias and workplace structures and how they can be portrayed by leaders. Attempting to help recognize that bias exists through reading this book is the first step to overcome it for a healthier lifestyle. I would have enjoyed reading more about ethical resiliency and strategies to become ethically resilient. This book contains excellent analogies about basic human instincts and the relations towards bias behavior from the beginning of time. It is often easier to act with a biased nature but we must constantly remind ourselves to be open and inclusive, and to consider the situation and other perspectives.
